Meet the Beekeeper

I started Honey Wagon with a single hive and a simple love for bees. What began as a fun project quickly grew into something bigger. I realized this wasn’t just about honey. It was about community, connection, and giving the bees the credit they deserve.

Today, I harvest small-batch honey in Flagstaff and Tucson, while helping others learn the joys (and challenges!) of beekeeping. To me, the bees do the real work; I just get to share it with you.

The Heart & The Science

Honey Wagon is fueled by passion, yet it remains rooted in science. With a background in natural resources and entomology, I’ve spent more than a decade working with honey bees at USDA research labs in Arizona and California, studying everything from nutrition to pesticide exposure. Today, I also serve as Head of Beekeeper Relations North America at Dalan Biosciences, helping commercial operations adopt the world’s first honey bee vaccine.

Honey Wagon is where my heart and brain come together: a small-scale, hands-on beekeeping project that’s guided by love for the bees and grounded in science-based practices.

Our Beekeeping Philosophy

For me, the bees always come first. They make the honey, and my job is to keep them healthy and thriving. That means harvesting responsibly and managing for long-term health rather than short-term gain.

our guiding principle

The Bees Do the Work

The honey is theirs first. I only harvest the surplus from supers, never from brood boxes. This way, the bees always have enough to thrive while I simply share their abundance.

Hive Health

Health Comes First

Strong hives are the foundation of everything. I treat for mites, work with vaccinated queens, and focus on keeping colonies healthy year after year.

Migratory by choice

Nature Sets the Pace

I move hives between Tucson and Flagstaff to follow the wildflower blooms and seasons. Winters in Flagstaff give the bees a natural rest, lowering stress and supporting long-term health.

Raw & Real

Honey, Untouched

I never pasteurize or add anything to the honey. Coarse filtering keeps the natural pollens and enzymes intact, preserving its full flavor and raw qualities, just as the bees made it.
